Will I get CEUs from attending each group?

Yes! CEUs are now available to LMFTs and LMSWs. Currently working on CEUs for Clinical Psychologists.

How is the material presented?

Prior to the next meeting, one or more papers are sent out to members, either via email or this web site. The meeting combines didactics and discussion. We often view videotapes that are clinically relevant to attachment, couples, and/or neuroscience and the application to clinical work.

Is there a curriculum?

As of this writing, we are directed by our reading (recent journal articles) on attachment, psychobiology, and affect/arousal regulation.

The group has already been meeting. Shouldn't I start at the beginning?

No. It does not matter when you start this group. The material in this group is not presented in a linear fashion. Rather, the learning that occurs is more circular and modular, like pieces of a puzzle. Members are encouraged to allow unfamiliar terms and ideas to simply flow over them and not worry about confusion. Because so much of what we will be reading and discussing is repetitive, you will find that your knowledge and understanding will increase dramatically with time. Additionally, since the material is connected to clinical application and real human experience, an emotional or intuitive understanding comes rather quickly.

Is your focus now strictly related to couples therapy?

No. I am still interested in mother-infant attachment and prevention. I believe this material can be applied to all modalities and approaches.

How often does the group meet?

I have just added a second Friday group for each month beginning July 2007.

Must I come to every meeting?

No, but consistency is encouraged for several reasons. The material is quite dense and we move at a fast pace. For this reason, it would be in your best interest to attend as many meetings as possible in sequence. Also, the group suffers when members are inconsistent.

Am I charged for missed meetings?

Please give 48 hours, time enough for other arrangements. You may also switch to another day if given enough advance notice and if there is room.

Do we discuss cases?

Cases may come up occasionally, however, at present this group does not provide supervision nor is its purpose aimed at case conferencing. This is a didactically-oriented group that uses lecture, audio-visual, and experiential methods for learning. A case may be used for learning purposes as seen fit by the instructor.

Why can't I access articles in the library?

The library is intended for ongoing members of the group and is not available to the general public. If you are just visiting or attending just one or two meetings, I will send the articles to you via e-mail. I occasionally change the password. If you are a member and cannot log on, contact me and I will send you the current password.
